Why do you call the wood wine cups Silva Culture?
The Silva Culture brand name of our wood drinkware originates in “silviculture,” from the Latin silvi (“forest") and culture (“growing”). Silviculture is the art and science of managing healthy forests to meet diverse needs and values on a sustainable basis. Silva Culture elevates this meaning to a line of elegantly crafted drinkware.
What is special about the wood wine cups?
Silva Culture wood wine glasses are crafted on a specialized lathe at our turning mill in Maine. Unlike other wood cups, ours feature fine profiles, unique designs and are simply more elegant. The hand-rubbed finish we apply to the outside of the cup really accentuates the natural beauty of the wood grain. Our cups are available in cherry, hard maple, walnut and yellow birch.
Is it safe to drink from wood cups?
Yes! The inside of the wood cup is coated with a water-based and food-safe sealant to prevent leaking and staining. The coating prevents the wood from interacting with whatever you are drinking, and and does not alter the taste of your drink. It also helps in maintaining hygiene.
What can I drink in the wood wine glasses?
Our wood drinkware is suitable for any beverage -- hot or cold, with or without bubbles, wine, beer or juice!
How do you clean the wood cup?
Simply hand wash with warm and mildly soapy water. Dry with a towel to remove excess water, and let air dry before storing. DO NOT submerge in water and DO NOT put the cup into the dishwasher! This will cause the wood to expand and contract, causing cracking and affecting the finishes both inside and outside the cup. A bottle brush works great to get those hard-to-reach spaces!.
How much liquid do the wood cups hold?
All cups designs – Classic and Modern, Tall or Short – all hold 4 ounces of liquid.
Where are the wood wine cups made?
The wood wine cups are made for Silva Culture exclusively by our sister company, Wells Wood Turning & Finishing. The companies operate under the same ownership. All design, turning and finishing is done at our mill in Buckfield, Maine.
