Wood Drinkware | Silviculture | Supplied by Healthy Forests

The Silva Culture brand name of our wood drinkware originates in “silviculture,” from the Latin silvi (“forest’) and culture (“growing”). Silviculture is the art and science of managing healthy forests to meet diverse needs and values on a sustainable basis. Silva Culture elevates this meaning to a line of elegantly crafted drinkware

Our eco-friendly wood cups are made exclusively by our sister company, Wells Wood Turning & Finishing, also in Buckfield, Maine. Wells Wood Turning is a leading manufacturer of wood-turned products, including rolling pins, furniture components and tool handles. The company has gained notoriety over the years for suppling colorful wood eggs for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. Our customers include a mix of specialty retailers, wholesalers, fine furniture makers, and promotional products companies.

All of the wood in the Silva Culture products is sustainably grown and harvested. We turn the wood cups on a specialized lathe, and sand and finish the pieces by hand — right at the mill. The inside of the wood wine glass is coated with a food-safe sealant to prevent leaking and staining -- the same sealant used to coat the inside of wine barrels. The outside is polished with a satin varnish finish. These USA-made wood drinking cups are available in hard maple, cherry, walnut, and yellow birch.

At Silva Culture, no wood goes to waste. All our shavings, dust and cutoffs are used as fuel to heat the shop and the kilns, which dry the wood. Excess sawdust is sold to a local organic farmer to bed his milk cows. No oil or gas is used in the drying process. Our mill is a member of a community solar farm that came online in 2023.
